Black Phosphorus: Critical Review and Potential for Water Splitting Photocatalyst
A century after its first synthesis in 1914, black phosphorus has been attracting significant attention as a promising two-dimensional material in recent years due to its unique properties. Nowadays, with the development of its exfoliation method, there are extensive applications of black phosphorus in transistors, batteries and optoelectronics. Though, because of its hardship in mass productio...
متن کاملDye-sensitized photocatalyst for effective water splitting catalyst
Renewable hydrogen production is a sustainable method for the development of next-generation energy technologies. Utilising solar energy and photocatalysts to split water is an ideal method to produce hydrogen. In this review, the fundamental principles and recent progress of hydrogen production by artificial photosynthesis are reviewed, focusing on hydrogen production from photocatalytic water...
متن کاملEfficient solar water-splitting using a nanocrystalline CoO photocatalyst.
The generation of hydrogen from water using sunlight could potentially form the basis of a clean and renewable source of energy. Various water-splitting methods have been investigated previously, but the use of photocatalysts to split water into stoichiometric amounts of H2 and O2 (overall water splitting) without the use of external bias or sacrificial reagents is of particular interest becaus...
متن کامل111 oriented gold nanoplatelets on multilayer graphene as visible light photocatalyst for overall water splitting
Development of renewable fuels from solar light appears as one of the main current challenges in energy science. A plethora of photocatalysts have been investigated to obtain hydrogen and oxygen from water and solar light in the last decades. However, the photon-to-hydrogen molecule conversion is still far from allowing real implementation of solar fuels. Here we show that 111 facet-oriented go...
متن کاملDirect splitting of pure water into hydrogen and oxygen using rutile titania powder as a photocatalyst.
Direct splitting of pure water into hydrogen and oxygen was demonstrated using the rutile TiO2 powder under band gap irradiation. The successful water splitting results at least in part from the intrinsic properties of the rutile surface that is less sensitive to photoreduction of O2, a reverse reaction in water splitting.
